Baby steps towards that fabulous new me

Posted by Julie at 7:53 AM
I wanted to give you guys an update as to how I did with my water drinking yesterday. Well, it wasn't exactly the result I wanted. Things at work yesterday were really hectic and I was just too busy to pay attention to how much water I was drinking.

The good news...today is another day to try again. I'm going to try to get in 5 bottles of water today. I'm taking baby steps and working my way up to the full 8 bottles a day that I'm supposed to be drinking.

Speaking of baby steps...

There's an old saying....how do you eat an elephant?

One bite at a time...

If you think about it, it makes sense...not that anyone would really WANT to eat an elephant...but I digress. Tackling a task a little at a time is a really smart way to achieve a goal. So, that is what I'm going to do.

I've really been inspired by Chalene Johnson. Chalene is a fitness expert who created workout programs like TurboFire and Chalene Extreme. They are sold on the same website as the Insanity videos. She is also a gifted motivational speaker. I really like her style, she's a no-nonsense type of person who don't take excuses and helps people to push past their own limitations to achieve their dreams.

She has this 30 day challenge website which teaches people step-by-step how to become more organized and how to get more done in a day: The 30 Day Push Challenge. This challenge is based on her book called PUSH. I haven't read the book, but I'm sure it just goes into more detail about her organizing methods. But this website is a 30 day challenge for anyone who wants to take small bites out of the elephant in an effort to eat the whole thing.

I have been thinking about all the goals I wrote on my first post. Looking back at it, I feel totally overwhelmed by how many things I feel need to be changed in order for me to feel fabulous by the time I'm 45. Seriously, there are a TON of goals on that list...how the heck am I going to achieve them all without a plan?

The need for a plan reminded me of Chalene's 30 Day Push Challenge.

In a nutshell, this challenge gets you to write out your goals...even your craziest dreams...and then you prioritize them in order of importance. Once you have them written, you then come up with all the individual things that need to be done in order to achieve the big goal. Then, you tackle the little goals day by day which all add up and help you achieve your BIG goal. Make sense?

One problem that I have with the challenge is that she really encourages you to have a smartphone. I just have a pay-as-you-go phone (yes...I know...I need to get into the current century, right?). So, my phone doesn't have the aps that she suggests in order to really get the full effect of the program.

But, you can do it without a phone - it just requires you to keep lists...written lists. Also, I've figured out a way to use Google Calendar to help with these goals too because most of the day I'm on a computer with an internet connection. So this will serve as my 'smartphone'.

I'm going to take this 30 day challenge and log my progress here. I'm also going to talk with my husband about starting to do video logs. I've never done it before, but there's a first for everything, right? Only problem is that I need to get a web cam. Maybe I can swing getting one today.

Not going to lie, putting myself on video and posting it for the world to see isn't something that I'm totally comfortable with. But, I know that going outside my comfort zone is exactly what I'm going to need to do in order to reach my goals.

I'm really tired of being afraid. Let's change that - today.

Hope you have a great Saturday! See you tomorrow (hopefully you'll see me!).
